Center for Spirituality, Manila

The Centre for Spirituality in Manila (SCM) focuses on promoting study and research in the field of spirituality. The results will be published and taught in academic courses.

  • CSM is interested in training people and organisations in the field of spirituality in the Philippine and Asian context.
  • It seeks to stimulate interreligious dialogue.

CSM is designed to contribute to scientific and systematic study of spirituality in the Philippines and Asia.

  • Research into spirituality. CSM assists and prioritises the following fields: Asian Spirituality, Philippine Spirituality and Carmelite Spirituality. CSM accepts proposals from various institutions and individuals who offer innovative methods and approaches to understanding spirituality.
  • A forum in the field of spirituality and a series of lectures. This has been an annual activity since 2001; topics for the forum focus on the dynamic interaction between spirituality and the chosen theme for that year.
  • In depth integration and reflection programmes. An occasional activity aimed at studying 'lived spirituality' in communities with spiritual traditions (e.g. indigenous groups).
  • Round table discussions, public lectures and symposiums Occasional gatherings of people involved in researching spiritualities in the Philippines and Asia, based on thematic issues.
  • Publication of studies of spirituality. CSM publishes material (e.g. research results, minutes of classes/symposiums, academic journals, reference works, etc.) to assist students and experts in their study of Philippine and Asian spirituality.
  • Compiling modules and curricula for academic courses. As a partner in the Spirituality for Education Network ( SPINE), designed at the University of Nijmegen, CSM compiles academic modules that are taught at selected educational institutions in Manila.
