Religious Life

In Perfectae Caritatis Vatican II provided a framework for the renewal of religious life. Three overlapping activities are proposed:

  • ressourcement of the institution mainly by making the source texts accessible;
  • interpreting 'the signs of the times';
  • interrelation of these two activities by 'all members', which presupposes hermeneutic mystagogic competence.

The theoretical framework that the TBI is devising on the basis of Perfectae Caritas, against the background of the phenomenon of 'schools of spirituality', provides a scientific setting for developing and testing models and appropriation processes, in close collaboration with the Conference of Dutch Religious (KNR) and individual orders and congregations. Development and testing are directed mainly to the hermeneutic mystagogic moment between tradition (ressourcement ) and experience (signs of the times).
