The key mandate of the Titus Brandsma Institute is to conduct research into the phenomenon of spirituality. This research forms the basis for all other activities, such as teaching, editorial work, training, service and disseminating information.
Conversely, the activities ensure that research does not remain confined to an ivory tower.
While the Institute's research covers all important dimensions of the phenomenon of spirituality, it is largely limited to the Judaic and Christian traditions.
There are three major fields:
- Study of the sources of lived spirituality, especially Scripture and liturgy
- Study of the history of spirituality, with special reference to the phenomena of mysticism and Modern Devotion
- Study of contemporary spirituality in social, religious and ecclesiastic contexts from a mystagogical perspective
Every five years the research of the Titus Brandsma Institute is described in a research plan, which is approved by top management on the advice of the scientific advisory council.
The current research plan is for the period 2004 to 2008. |
