According to Nicholas of Cusa, we are by divine providence determined to develop our own view on the world that we inhabit. Only the free actualisation of a plurality of perspectives can enable us to find our path to the simplicity of God in which all oppositions coincide. However, it is precisely this plurality of perspectives that has been blocked since the rising of Modernity. It is time for an ‘analogical turn’, for an ‘anamorphosis. Like in Holbein’s painting The Ambassadors, we must shift our gaze in order to find the point where the ‘invisible’ gives itself to our view.
